WMA is proud to be part of the design team for the nation’s first “net zero” energy retail store in Evanston, IL. To achieve a LEED Platinum certification, the Walgreens was designed to use technologies including more than 800 roof-top solar panels, wind turbines, geothermal energy, LED lighting and daylight harvesting, a CO2 refrigeration system, natural ventilation, and recycled building materials. This effort is part of Walgreens goal to reduce energy usage by 20% across all of its 8,000-plus stores by 2020.
In addition to the full MEP/FP Systems design of the building, WMA provided full LEED consulting, energy modeling and the Basis of Design (BOD) documentation.
