WMA is proud to be part of the design team for the nation’s first “net zero” energy retail store in Evanston, IL. To achieve a LEED Platinum certification, the Walgreens was designed to use technologies including more than 800 roof-top solar panels, wind turbines, geothermal energy, LED lighting and daylight harvesting, a CO2 refrigeration system, natural ventilation, and recycled building materials. This effort is part of Walgreens goal to reduce energy usage by 20% across all of its 8,000-plus stores by 2020.
In addition to the full Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection design of the building, WMA provided full LEED consulting, energy modeling and the Basis of Design (BOD) documentation.
